About Jamin

I was born and raised in Minneapolis, and for my entire adult life I have loved bicycles. My last job, before establishing Long Haul, was managing the service department of an exclusively electric bicycle shop. I got my first eBike and it allowed me to bike further, get to work faster and showed me that ebikes can enable us to replace more automobile trips with bicycle trips. Now I love eBikes.

What I love most about bicycles is how they can enhance our everyday lives. Riding to work, riding to a brewery, riding with friends. I like how practical they can be. I have moved twice entirely by bicycle. “I can’t carry that on my bicycle” is not a phrase you will often hear me say. With the advancement of electric assist bicycles, they are now even more accessible and practical. My biggest motivation to buy my first eBike was so that I could continue commuting on bike to work in the winter and it was a game changer!

One of the only things I like as much as riding bicycles is repairing them. That began two decades ago in the living room of my apartment in South Minneapolis. I started taking bicycles apart, and putting them back together, and doing my own repairs. I read everything I could find on the internet about bicycle maintenance.

I began working on my own bicycles, and when my confidence grew, my friends’ bikes as well. Soon I was running a small time repair business out of my basement as a side job. I eventually got a job as a full time professional mechanic working at two different Twin Cities bike shops and did that for four years. I then left the bicycle industry for a job working on medical equipment for three years. There I did electrical and mechanical repairs on scooters, power wheelchairs, lift chairs, and other power mobility equipment. I had been interested in electronics repair since I was a teenager, and this job gave me formal training and professional experience.

When I started my last job as the service manager at the electric bike shop it combined my extensive knowledge of bicycle mechanics with my electronics repair abilities. The owners eventually closed the business and now I work for myself. I am the proud founder, owner and operator of Long Haul eBike Repair.
